Jeffrey C. Yuen is the 88th Generation Daoist Master of Yu Ching Huang Lao Pai (Jade Purity School), Yellow Emperor/Lao Tzu Sect, ordained by 87th Generation Daoist Master Yu Wen, Jeffrey's adoptive grandfather. Immersed in the practice and study of Daoism and the classics of Chinese medicine since early childhood, Mr. Yuen offers unparalleled knowledge of the rich, oral traditions that fully integrate physical, psychological, and spiritual facets of the medicine. Mr. Yuen is an esteemed faculty member of the American University of Complementary Medicine, Swedish Institute of Health Sciences, the New England School of Acupuncture, & Daoist Healing Arts, among other schools. He lectures internationally.

Topic: Wild/Western Herbs and Classical Chinese Medicine:
Classically, Chinese medicine used primarily local ingredients. This allowed the use of plants that had adapted specifically to the environmental challenges that were local to the patient. In modern times, Chinese medicine has become centralized and much of it is farmed ... being grown in ideal conditions and losing some of the potency and resilience traditionally found in wild herbs. These herbs are not only shipped across China but across the world, to areas where the plants are not indigenous. In this weekend, Jeffrey will be returning to the roots of classical herbal medicine and review ways in which we can effectively utilize local herbs within a Classical Chinese medicine paradigm. More specifically, Jeffrey will explore the expansion of the Chinese medicine herbal pharmacopia to include Western herbs, that are local to many of the practitioners in the West. In doing so, Jeffrey will review tastes, temperatures, channel affinities, properties, recommended dosages and safety guidelines to allow Chinese medicine practitioners to seamlessly incorporate Western herbal medicines into the framework of Classical Chinese medicine.

A 3-Day Intensive with Jeffrey C. Yuen
Exploring Jing-essence, Yuan Qi, the Curious Fu, Bone, Marrow, and Daoist Cultivation
Classical Chinese Medicine offers a deeper understanding of the body through the study of Jing-essence, Yuan Qi, the Curious Fu, and the Eight Extraordinary Vessels. These concepts provide a framework for understanding constitutional energetics and aspects of the body associated with the deepest levels of vitality, aging, longevity, and transformation.
This three-day intensive with Jeffrey C. Yuen begins with the unique role of the Gall Bladder in accessing the Curious Fu, followed by an exploration of traditional Daoist practices of bone strengthening and marrow washing.
DAY 1
ACCESSING THE CURIOUS FU VIA GALL BLADDER
The Six Curious Fu have always been of great fascination to those who practice Chinese medicine, particularly because of their connection to the Eight Extraordinary Vessels and their cultivation within Daoist alchemy and sexology.
The inclusion of the Dan Gall Bladder and Mai vessels by the progenitors of Chinese medicine has arguably served as a link and access to the other Curious Fu, which are generally considered difficult, if not inaccessible, because of their relationship with pre-natal energetics.
Their association with Jing-essence and Yuan-source Qi—including the brain and spine, uterus and genitals, bone, and marrow—places them at the deepest levels of one's constitution and makes them complex and fascinating areas of Classical Chinese Medicine.
Often associated with the Kidneys, Urinary Bladder, Liver, and Gall Bladder, these Curious Fu present important considerations in understanding neurological, gynecological, urogenital, digestive, geriatric, and aging-related concerns.
With relatively scant information offered in traditional Chinese medical texts regarding their energetics, this seminar will explore insights derived from Daoist traditions and the cultivation of Jing-essence, with particular attention to the role, function, and uniqueness of the Gall Bladder.

DAOIST PRACTICES OF BONE STRENGTHENING & MARROW WASHING
Some of the common endeavors in Daoist cultivation have involved longevity, alchemy, and healing. With a key focus on the transmutation of the vital humors of the body through postural mudras, intentional mind concentration, and breath control, Daoist practitioners believed that such practices could impact the transformative capacities of Jing-essence and create profound changes within the physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of the individual.
In addition, by harnessing and refining **Bone and Marrow—expressions of Jing-essence—**one may explore traditional concepts of regeneration and the processes of degeneration in relation to longevity and virility.
The bony cavities of the torso are associated with important areas of the body related to aging, including the pelvis and genitalia, thorax and heart, and cranium and brain.
By focusing on the training of the bone and the implantation into the marrow of vibrational consciousness through color, sound, and aroma, traditional Daoist practices describe the strengthening of bone and the cleansing or “washing” of marrow.
This seminar will explore Daoist practices and insights into the dynamics of Bone and Marrow and the ways in which these deeper aspects of Jing-essence may be cultivated.

AUCM has not separately obtained approval as a Professional Development Activity (PDA) provider from the National Certification Board for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (NCBAHM). However, NCBAHM’s current recertification policies provide that coursework that is not approved through the NCBAHM PDA program may be accepted when the coursework is in a core competency subject and has been approved by a state acupuncture regulatory board.
Accordingly, eligible CAB-approved AUCM coursework may be reported by NCBAHM Diplomates toward their NCBAHM recertification requirements, subject to all applicable NCBAHM policies, reporting procedures, category requirements, and limitations in effect at the time the coursework is completed and reported.
