About the Event
Welcoming the Year of the Water Tiger with Jeffrey Yuen
Chinese medicine historically is part of an integrative system and utilizes all manner of modalities to improve people’s health and lives. Indeed, one’s health is intimately related to one’s physical, mental and spiritual environment. According to Chinese medicine and philosophy, the universe expresses itself cyclically. This applies not only to the planetary movements governing the years and seasons, but that our biorhythms and human lives are intimately related to the external cycles. Through careful observation, the ancient Chinese mapped out these rhythms using various models such as stem and branch theory and the various permutations of the 8 trigrams/9 stars. Every year on Chinese new year, the universal energy (as it relates to earth) changes. This influences how energy circulates through the structures of the earth, both inanimate and animate.
In this first of what is planned to be an annual series, Dr. Yuen will review how Chinese medicine and philosophy models the interactions of heaven and earth and specifically how the energies of 2022 are believed to manifest through the meridians of the earth and its structures (feng shui) and how this is mirrored through the meridians and structures of our body from the standpoints of both time and space. In particular the Chinese medicine models of the 5 elements and 8 trigrams will be discussed in terms of the use of stem and branch theory and the 9 palaces in forecasting how energies will interact to produce health or disease. Various energetic interactions that result in stagnation can be altered through understanding their relationships and changing the internal environment (through acupuncture, herbal medicine, essential oils, stones and gems, meditation and qigong), or the external environment (through various techniques of guiding energy also with stones and gems, water, placement of forms and other means of energetic manipulation).
Day 1 will discuss the underlying theories of the 5 elements (including stem and branch theory) and the 8 trigrams (including the 9 palaces) and how they relate to health disease and a harmonious environment
Day 2 will discuss how these theories are applied in environmental medicine to correct imbalances that may be coming from one’s environment.
Days 3 and 4 will discuss how these theories are applied to the internal environment to correct imbalances due to the interaction of the universal cyclical energies with one’s personal energy through the use of modalities within Chinese medicine including acupuncture, herbal medicine, essential oils, gems and stones, meditation and qigong.
