DECEMBER 2 - 5, 2022 (FRI - MON)
Topic: Wild/Western Herbs and Classical Chinese Medicine:
Classically, Chinese medicine used primarily local ingredients. This allowed the use of plants that had adapted specifically to the environmental challenges that were local to the patient. In modern times, Chinese medicine has become centralized and much of it is farmed ... being grown in ideal conditions and losing some of the potency and resilience traditionally found in wild herbs. These herbs are not only shipped across China but across the world, to areas where the plants are not indigenous. In this weekend, Jeffrey will be returning to the roots of classical herbal medicine and review ways in which we can effectively utilize local herbs within a Classical Chinese medicine paradigm. More specifically, Jeffrey will explore the expansion of the Chinese medicine herbal pharmacopia to include Western herbs, that are local to many of the practitioners in the West. In doing so, Jeffrey will review tastes, temperatures, channel affinities, properties, recommended dosages and safety guidelines to allow Chinese medicine practitioners to seamlessly incorporate Western herbal medicines into the framework of Classical Chinese medicine.

From Gut to Brain: What Acupuncturists Need to Know About Parasites:
A Classical Chinese Medicine Perspective on Parasites
Over 1.5 billion people worldwide are currently infected with parasites and many of them don’t even know it?
From chronic digestive issues to fatigue, skin disorders, and even emotional imbalance, parasites are an often overlooked cause of lingering health problems. And they’re not just found in “third world” countries. Parasites like Giardia, Toxoplasma, and tapeworms are increasingly common in the U.S., especially in areas with contaminated water, international travel, or poor gut terrain.
Classical Chinese Medicine has recognized these conditions for thousands of years. Terms like Gu syndrome, damp-heat, and wind-toxins describe parasitic and infectious influences long before microscopes ever existed.
In this powerful and timely lecture, Dr. Jeffrey C. Yuen draws from ancient medical texts and modern research to illuminate:
- How parasites affect digestion, immunity, and Shen
- The classical framework for diagnosing and treating parasitic conditions
- Key herbs like Qing Hao (Artemisia annua), Ku Shen, and Bai Tou Weng.
- Why climate change, travel, and lifestyle are increasing parasitic risk
- How to integrate this knowledge into clinical acupuncture and herbal protocols
Whether you're treating stubborn GI cases, fatigue that won’t resolve, or unexplained symptoms parasites may be the missing link. This lecture will give you the diagnostic insight and tools to respond.

Although AUCM has not sought approval for CEUs from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), the NCCAOM recognizes and accepts CEUs that have been approved by the CAB. While the NCCAOM acknowledges CAB-approved CEUs, it is important to note that their policies on CEU acceptance may change. Therefore, it is the responsibility of participants to keep up-to-date on all NCCAOM policies regarding the acceptance of CAB CEUs.
4. By registering for the live stream, you acknowledge and agree to the terms outlined in this registration policy. Please note that it is always better to check with the certifying body or institution for their specific CEU requirements.
