About the Event
The Endocrine System & Chinese Medicine (FRI & SAT)
With endocrine disorders increasing substantially in today’s world, ranging from diabetes, metabolic syndrome, adrenal exhaustion, to osteoporosis, it is relevant to consider the options offered by Chinese medicine. Correlated to the jin-ye (fluid physiology), Chinese medicine presents an integrated understanding of how these endocrine (and exocrine) humors can exert over the neurological, immunological, and psychosocial systems. In addition, these Ye-thick fluids are associated with the curious fu-bowels which can impact our constitution and the cycles of growth, maturity, and decline.
While fluid physiology is modulated by the San Jiao mechanism, it also has a significance over the other humors of Chinese medicine — Jing, Shen, Qi, and Xue-blood. As such, the Jin-Ye influences all the Zang-Fu and arguably, can be viewed as the basis of all healing. Since most of the hormones warrants a gradual synergetic and antagonistic feedback loop, its dynamics can be affected directly by ying-nourishing qi and yuan-source qi.
In this seminar, Jeffrey Yuen will explore the role of herbs, acupuncture, essential oils, stones, diet, exercise, and sleep-rest/meditation can have on the endocrine system and provide approaches on their regulation and management.
Immunity and Chinese Medicine (SUN & MON)
Conceptually, immunity would be associated with the Zheng-upright qi in Chinese medicine that deals with Xie-perverse qi. With richness in Chinese medical literature regarding the dynamics of how the body deals with Xie-perverse qi, clinicians of Chinese medicine can gain different approaches from its various traditions on how to arouse, maintain, and support the nature of the Zheng-upright, which can offer insights into understanding the immune system.
In addition, exploring how the different aspects of Zheng-upright qi as Wei-defensive and Zong-chest qi deal with biological and non-biological perversities and their anatomical and clinician manifestations, offer clinicians a deeper overview on Zhang-miasms, Gu-parasites, Chong-Worms, and Zhu-infestations, aside from Shang Han and Gan Mao conditions. Other features of immunity will also be examined such as auto-immunity and immuno-deficiency with their clinical management.
This seminar will discuss how the different modalities of Chinese medicine (herbs, acupuncture, essential oils, stones, exercise/qigong, and sleep/rest/meditation) can be utilized to address the immunity system, as well as its correlations to the endocrinology, psychology, and neurology. The current FuZheng (Support the Zheng-Upright Qi) approach will also be examined.
