Jeffrey C. Yuen is the 88th Generation Daoist Master of Yu Ching Huang Lao Pai (Jade Purity School), Yellow Emperor/Lao Tzu Sect, ordained by 87th Generation Daoist Master Yu Wen, Jeffrey's adoptive grandfather. Immersed in the practice and study of Daoism and the classics of Chinese medicine since early childhood, Mr. Yuen offers unparalleled knowledge of the rich, oral traditions that fully integrate physical, psychological, and spiritual facets of the medicine. Mr. Yuen is an esteemed faculty member of the American University of Complementary Medicine, Swedish Institute of Health Sciences, the New England School of Acupuncture, & Daoist Healing Arts, among other schools. He lectures internationally.

Shen Derangement — Mental Illnesses and Chinese Medicine
Deep in the study of Chinese medicine is the association of disturbances in the Shen that contributes to mental illnesses. Said to be stored in the elusive and intangible Xin-Heart and residing in the Xue-blood, the Shen connotes our enthusiasm, purpose, and engagement with the world. Susceptible to emotions, the Shen can orientate our demeanor and in some cases, alter our original Xing-temperament and render an individual as no longer himself/herself in the eyes of family and friends. Often times, such changes can be precipitated by trauma, substance abuse, and progressive stress in one’s lives. While there can be genetic predispositions, Shen disturbances will inadvertently impact the Jing-essence of the constitution and its association with its intrinsic Zhi-willpower. Without the balance of the Jing-Shen, one can fluctuate disharmoniously within the threshold of yin and yang to manifest as Dian-Kuang (withdrawal-mania) or anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive, and/or bipolar disorders, as well as schizophrenia and borderline personality disorders in Western medicine. This 3-day seminar will explore the concept of Shen and its correlation to psychosocial aspects, the Xin-heart, Xue-blood, and Nao-Brain. Topics covered will include the complexes of Shen-Hun-Po with Zhi-Yi, the harmonious balance between Jing-Shen, the etiologies that impact the Shen and its ensuing pathologies, and the manifestations and treatments of mental illnesses, including Dian-Kuang (bi-polar, schizophrenia, ocd), Xing Ke Bing (schizophrenia, borderline personality), Chuang Shang (trauma), and Xi Du (substance abuse).

- Assessment Test: After viewing the lecture, participants must take a brief assessment test. This test evaluates their comprehension of the lecture's content and ensures that they have gained a satisfactory level of knowledge.
- Evaluation Form: Following the completion of the lecture and the assessment test, participants are expected to submit an evaluation form. This form provides feedback on the educational experience and may include questions related to the quality of the lecture, the relevance of the content, and the overall effectiveness of the educational activity.

CEU Certification:
- To earn Continuing Education Units (CEU) for this lecture, a brief assessment test will be administered. This assessment evaluates your comprehension of the lecture's content.
Flexible Learning:
- You are NOT required to watch the lecture in real-time to qualify for CEUs; however, watching it in real-time will allow attendees to ask questions to the instructor.
- You can choose a convenient time within the viewing period to access the content.
- Following your lecture viewing, you will have the opportunity to complete the assessment to demonstrate your knowledge.
- This format empowers you to learn at your own pace while still earning valuable CEUs.
