EVENT DETAILS:

Fusion of Traditions: Classical Chinese and Western Perspectives on Dental and Oral Health as the Foundation of Overall Well-being—An Integrated Approach

The oral cavity is one of the most important foundation of life and healing, ranging from eating, speaking, and breathing — elements of survival, nourishment, and communication. As such, the health of the mouth, tongue, gums, and teeth are all significant to the vitality and longevity of the body. From the lifetime cycles of our dental growth to its impact on the neck, throat, head, brain, and other sensory orifices, oral hygiene has been paramount to our health and healing. While conventional dentistry offers merits of proper care, there are other aspects that are acknowledged but rarely emphasized — such as its role on evolution, their emotional and mental challenges, and their correlations to other bodily systems (e.g., cardiovascular, cerebral, and digestive).

Join us in unraveling dentistry from their current traditional care to their technological advances, along with their subspecialties as guided by both a dentist-acupuncturist-vibrational medicine specialist and a clinician-educator in Classical Chinese medicine as they explore with us:
- the foundation of oral health from Western dentistry and Chinese medicine
- the significance of the teeth to the Jing-essence and constitutional vessels
- the role of the oral cavity to the dynamics of the digestive system (Yangming)
- the significance of the gums, tongue, lips, and jaw to the various facets of health
- proper oral care and treatment strategies for oral and dental health challenges and diseases
- the use of different modalities— both Western, Chinese, and vibrational — in working with the above issues

This event will be co-taught with Dr. Joan E. Borden, DDS, MAc, CA, LAc.:

I began my career in medicine as a holistic dentist, creating a health center in Midtown Manhattan that addressed many human health challenges.

After practicing dentistry for several years, I enrolled in acupuncture school at The Traditional Acupuncture Institute in Columbia, Maryland, to better address my clients' challenges. I initially used acupuncture as an adjunctive modality while treating dental clients, but over time, it became a stand-alone treatment, separate from dentistry.

As I evolved, so did my understanding of energy medicine and vibrational healing. I was fortunate to study and mentor with extraordinary teachers and clinicians in the field of Chinese Medicine and Philosophy. I offer a deep bow of gratitude to Dianne Connelly, Bob Duggan, Dr. John Shen, and Dr. Jeffrey Yuen. My perspective has been greatly influenced by the generosity and broad scope of these influential practitioners. Along the way, I also had the privilege to learn Clean Language from Cei Davies Linn, Reiki from Mary Fran O’Neill, and Craniosacral work with the Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation and the Cranial Academy.

I have been a student of Dr. Jeffrey Yuen for over 20+ years and continue to study and be guided by his teachings.

I am pleased and grateful for the opportunity to share my perspective on dental medicine. Over the years, many in the acupuncture and Chinese Medicine community have reached out to me for guidance on dental health.

I have transitioned my practice to focus on vibrational medicine and the empowerment of personal development, allowing me to better serve my clients.

This class on dental health and medicine will provide you with a background on some basic dental issues. More importantly, I hope to demystify the field of dentistry. I offer you a breadth of knowledge that illuminates the mouth and all its supporting structures as an integral portal to our overall health and well-being.
